Manchester United vs Southampton prediction: Ugarte debut, expected lineup, confirmed team updates

Manuel Ugarte is expected to be part of Manchester United’s squad for their Premier League match against Southampton in the early kick-off on Saturday. The Uruguayan midfielder completed his £50.5 million transfer from Paris Saint-Germain on the final day of the transfer window, but the deal was finalized too late for him to play in United’s 3-0 defeat to Liverpool on September 1.

Now, Ugarte could make his debut at St Mary’s Stadium, either starting the game or coming on as a substitute. Manager Erik ten Hag will be aiming for a much-needed victory, and Ugarte’s inclusion could provide a boost. If Ugarte doesn’t start, ten Hag will have to decide between giving Casemiro another chance after his poor performance against Liverpool or opting for young midfielder Toby Collyer.

Apart from Ugarte’s potential involvement, few other changes are anticipated, as Manchester United’s injury issues persist. Striker Rasmus Højlund and left-back Luke Shaw are both unlikely to be fit for the clash against Southampton, meaning ten Hag will have to rely on the players already available.

At the back, Matthijs de Ligt is set to continue his partnership with Lisandro Martinez in central defense. In attack, Amad Diallo might be brought into the starting lineup in place of either Marcus Rashford or Alejandro Garnacho as the team looks to improve their offensive output.

Manchester United has struggled to find the back of the net in their first three league games, scoring only twice. One of these goals came from winger Amad Diallo, and the other from forward Joshua Zirkzee, who is expected to lead the attack again against Southampton. With just two goals so far, the pressure is on ten Hag’s side to find their scoring form and secure a much-needed win.
