Former Barcelona star and Brazilian football legend, Rivaldo, shared his perspective on Barcelona’s impressive performance under the management of German coach Hansi Flick this season. His comments followed Barcelona’s commanding 3-0 win over Espanyol in the Catalan derby.
Rivaldo praised Flick’s impact on the team, highlighting how he brought renewed confidence and offered significant opportunities to academy players.
He emphasized that it is still early in the season and there’s much work to be done, cautioning that success takes time. “Things are going very well,” he said, explaining that while it is too soon to draw definitive conclusions, Barcelona’s progress has been promising so far. Rivaldo remains hopeful that their momentum will continue through to the end of the season.
Reflecting on Barcelona’s prospects, Rivaldo expressed confidence in their chances of winning La Liga. However, he noted that the Champions League presents a tougher challenge, given the unpredictability of European tournaments.
While anything is possible in football, he suggested that league success is more achievable as teams have multiple opportunities to secure points. The Champions League, on the other hand, requires consistent high-level performances against elite clubs, making it a greater test of skill and resilience.
When asked about potential areas for improvement, Rivaldo pointed out that Barcelona needs a top-tier forward to strengthen their attacking force. He believes that Swedish striker Victor Gjokers, currently with Sporting Lisbon, would be an ideal signing for the Catalan club. According to Rivaldo, Gjokers’ goal-scoring prowess and energy could fill a gap left by the team’s current options.
He noted that their Polish striker, while talented, often lacks the sharpness needed in front of goal and struggles to apply pressure consistently, especially in crucial matches like those against Real Madrid.
Rivaldo’s analysis underscores the need for Barcelona to balance experienced leadership with young talent and possibly bring in a new scorer to ensure they remain competitive on both domestic and European fronts.
