Christopher Nkunku’s situation at Chelsea has become quite confusing, leaving both fans and pundits uncertain about his future at the club. Initially, it was widely assumed that Nkunku might be on his way out this summer, especially with Chelsea actively looking to reshape their attacking options.
However, to the surprise of many, the French forward was included in Chelsea’s squad for the FIFA Club World Cup and has been a regular feature in the team’s recent matches during their tour of the United States.
Chelsea’s new manager, Enzo Maresca, has consistently spoken about his plans to include Nkunku in his tactical setup for the upcoming season. His public backing of the player suggests that Nkunku remains an important part of his plans, at least for now. Nevertheless, behind the scenes, there’s still a strong belief that Chelsea would be willing to sell Nkunku if a reasonable offer arrives. The issue, however, is that there has been little serious interest from other clubs up to this point.
One club that continues to be linked with Nkunku is Bayern Munich. The German champions reportedly admire the player’s abilities and have the financial resources to make a deal happen.
Yet, despite the ongoing rumors, no official offer or concrete steps have been taken by Bayern so far. According to reliable German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bayern are simply observing Nkunku’s situation without actively engaging in negotiations.
Bayern’s hesitation is partly because their ability to move for Nkunku depends on clearing out some of their current players first. They need to make space in both their squad and wage bill before they can seriously pursue new targets.
Additionally, Bayern’s transfer priorities could soon shift following a major setback, as young star Jamal Musiala suffered a serious injury during the Club World Cup. His absence for a significant part of the season may increase Bayern’s need for attacking reinforcements.
Even with this potential opening, there has still been no concrete progress regarding Nkunku’s future. Chelsea supporters, eager for the club to bring in fresh attacking options, understand that any major signing in that area might depend on Nkunku’s exit. For now, the situation remains in limbo, with both Chelsea and Bayern monitoring circumstances closely but taking no definitive action.
