The club has responded by granting all five an extended break from pre-season, allowing them extra time through July to explore transfer options. They’ll continue to access medical support remotely and can return to Carrington later if their futures remain unresolved.
Rashford’s decision carries significant weight. A United academy graduate who’s made over 400 appearances and scored 138 goals, he’s fallen out of favour under Ruben Amorim—particularly regarding his work rate—and spent part of last season on loan at Aston Villa.
Alejandro Garnacho, still only 20, is frustrated by his marginal role—he got just 20 minutes in the Europa League final—and his public disappointment mirrors Amorim’s clear message: he’s not in the coach’s long-term plan.
Jadon Sancho returns to the list after a mixed spell on loan at Chelsea, where a permanent transfer was declined. With interest from Juventus and others, he’s now pressing for a more stable future elsewhere.
Brazilian winger Antony enjoyed a resurgence on loan at Real Betis—nine goals, five assists—but still hasn’t convinced at Old Trafford. Clubs like Bayer Leverkusen and Betis reportedly want him back, though financial terms remain tricky.
Dutch full-back Tyrell Malacia endured injuries and ended the season on loan at PSV. He’s also on United’s transfer list, with both player and club acknowledging that a fresh start would be best.
United seem determined to clear these players off the books to fund a squad rebuild under Amorim. Rashford’s iconic No. 10 shirt has already been assigned to Matheus Cunha, and club insiders note that transforming their wage structure is essential given last season’s financial pressure from missing out on the Champions League.
