Manchester United are reportedly preparing to pursue Benjamin Sesko for around £67 million if Viktor Gyokeres ends up sealing a move to Arsenal. Multiple Premier League clubs are chasing strikers this summer, but none are more determined than Arsenal and United.
Arsenal have set their sights firmly on signing a centre-forward, while United are also pushing hard to reinforce their attack despite still having faith in Rasmus Hojlund’s potential. With both clubs shopping for the same position, it’s no surprise their targets are overlapping.
Both teams are highly interested in Gyokeres, but he has informed United he prefers to join Arsenal. This makes it increasingly likely he will end up at the Emirates Stadium rather than Old Trafford.
Should Arsenal complete the Gyokeres deal, United have already prepared an alternative plan. According to Ben Jacobs on The United Stand, Sesko would be the next name on their list.
Sesko has also been linked with Arsenal in a potential transfer worth about £67 million. The scenario could see United end up signing the striker Arsenal don’t pick.
Jacobs explained that if Gyokeres does not end up at Arsenal, he could still consider United. However, there is also the possibility Arsenal land Gyokeres, prompting United to re-ignite their pursuit of Sesko, who last year decided to stay with Leipzig despite United’s interest.
Comparing the two, Gyokeres has been delivering more goals lately and has experience working under Ruben Amorim. Meanwhile, Sesko is younger and promising but still unproven at the very highest level, similar to how Hojlund was when United signed him.
These decisions could have a major impact on both clubs’ futures. The coming weeks will be crucial as Arsenal’s moves could determine whether United must quickly trigger Sesko’s clause to avoid missing out.
