Arsenal appear to be leading the race to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres as the summer transfer window draws near. The North London club is intent on strengthening their attacking lineup after enduring a season filled with missed opportunities and underwhelming results in the Premier League.
Throughout the 2024-2025 campaign, Arsenal have faced multiple setbacks, including injuries to key players and questionable officiating, both of which have disrupted their rhythm. These complications have significantly impaired their pursuit of the league title, raising urgent questions about squad depth and consistency.
With just five matches left to play, Arsenal are 13 points behind current leaders Liverpool, a deficit that highlights their shortcomings and the urgent need for reinforcements. It’s evident that if they want to challenge for trophies, particularly the Premier League, decisive actions during the transfer window are essential.
A major concern for Arsenal has been their lack of a dependable striker. Although they have managed to stay in the top tier of the league, their inability to convert chances consistently has cost them dearly. A clinical forward is seen as the missing piece in their tactical puzzle.
Viktor Gyokeres has emerged as Arsenal’s top target to solve this issue. Reports from Portuguese outlet A Bola suggest that the Gunners are currently best positioned to land the Swedish striker, making them the favourites to complete the high-profile signing.
Although Gyokeres’ contract with Sporting CP contains a release clause valued at £86 million, it’s believed that a gentleman’s agreement may allow him to move for approximately £60 million. Such an arrangement could make the deal more attainable for Arsenal while still representing a significant investment.
Gyokeres has been in sensational form since joining Sporting CP from Coventry City. At 26 years old, he has become one of the most effective attackers in Europe, racking up 47 goals and 11 assists in 46 games this season—a performance that surpasses even his outstanding previous campaign.
The striker’s dynamic style, physicality, and sharp instincts in front of goal make him an ideal fit for Arsenal’s playing philosophy. His strong duel-winning ability and high shot conversion rate underline his potential impact. If Arsenal succeed in signing him, Gyokeres could provide the firepower they’ve been lacking and elevate them into serious title contention.
