Barcelona remains committed to securing its long-term future, with sporting director Deco emphasizing the need to reinforce the team’s attack. With Robert Lewandowski nearing 37, the club recognizes the importance of finding a young striker capable of leading the frontline in the years ahead.
Lewandowski has struggled in recent times, particularly in finishing, which has negatively impacted Barcelona’s position in La Liga, allowing Real Madrid to overtake them. Given this, the club is actively searching for a promising striker who can take over as their primary goal-scorer.
According to the Spanish newspaper AS, Benjamin Sesko has emerged as a leading candidate. At just 21, the Slovenian forward has established himself as one of Europe’s most exciting young strikers.
His combination of physical strength, speed, and ability to play with his back to goal makes him an attractive prospect for Barcelona.
Head coach Hansi Flick views Sesko as an ideal complement to Lamine Yamal, Barcelona’s rising star. With Yamal expected to play a crucial role in the team’s future, pairing him with a powerful and dynamic striker like Sesko could create a formidable attacking partnership. Sesko’s goal-scoring ability, combined with Yamal’s creativity, has the potential to reshape Barcelona’s offensive approach.
While Sesko is a priority, he is not the only striker Barcelona is considering. Other high-profile names such as Erling Haaland, Alexander Isak, and Viktor Gyökeres are also on the club’s radar.
However, each option presents challenges—Haaland’s transfer fee is extraordinarily high, Isak is a key player in the Premier League, and persuading Sporting Lisbon to release Gyökeres would be difficult.
Given these factors, Sesko appears to be the most realistic option. His youth and immense potential make him a more viable signing, both financially and sportingly. Moreover, his playing style aligns well with Flick’s tactical philosophy, which emphasizes versatility in attack and effective link-up play.
If Barcelona secures Sesko’s signature, it would not only address their immediate attacking concerns but also provide a long-term solution. With Lewandowski gradually nearing the end of his peak years, Sesko could step in as Barcelona’s next leading striker. His presence, combined with Yamal’s talent, could form the foundation of a new era for the Catalan club’s attack.
By successfully acquiring Sesko, Barcelona would be making a decisive move toward ensuring their offensive strength for years to come, positioning themselves for sustained success at both domestic and European levels.
