Arsenal is reportedly ready to trigger Viktor Gyokeres’ release clause, valued at £84.2 million, to outpace Manchester United in securing the striker’s signature.
Despite lacking a sporting director, Manchester United is actively working under Ruben Amorim’s guidance to reinforce their squad during the January transfer window. The team’s struggles have been likened to “open heart surgery,” as not all issues can be resolved mid-season. However, adding a key player like Gyokeres could offer long-term solutions.
Amorim appears willing to break the ‘non-aggression pact’ with Sporting CP to land Gyokeres this month. The Swedish striker, who was Europe’s top scorer last year, is highly regarded for his consistent goal-scoring abilities.
His impressive performance has drawn attention from both Arsenal and Manchester United, creating a competitive transfer race.
Arsenal’s interest in Gyokeres is partly driven by Gabriel Jesus’ ACL injury, which has ruled him out for the rest of the season. The Gunners currently rely on Kai Havertz, who does not naturally fit the traditional number nine role, leaving the team short of attacking options. This situation has intensified their pursuit of the prolific forward.
Similarly, Manchester United is in dire need of a reliable striker. The team has struggled with goal-scoring this season, and neither Rasmus Hojlund nor Joshua Zirkzee has earned Amorim’s confidence. Gyokeres, with his proven record and strong start to the current season, is seen as a transformative addition to the Red Devils’ attacking lineup.
The Swedish forward’s remarkable form last season and his continued success this year have solidified his reputation as one of Europe’s most promising strikers. Both Arsenal and Manchester United recognize the significant impact he could have on their squads, making him a highly sought-after target in the January window.
While Gyokeres’ future remains undecided, Arsenal’s determination to secure his transfer ahead of their Premier League rivals adds an intriguing dimension to the ongoing transfer saga. As the race intensifies, the outcome of this pursuit will be closely monitored throughout the month.
