Arsenal set to sign £58m “machine” described as “world-class,” potentially becoming their version of Gyokeres.

Arsenal is reportedly pursuing a “world-class” striker valued at £58 million, with the potential to replicate the impact of Viktor Gyökeres.

The Gunners’ recent 2-2 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion highlighted their continued inconsistency, which could have significantly hindered their title aspirations if not for Manchester United’s subsequent draw with Liverpool.

Although Arsenal has been solid defensively this season, boasting the league’s best backline, their offensive struggles remain a pressing concern. Recognizing this issue, the club is reportedly exploring options to bolster their attack, with Juventus forward Dušan Vlahović emerging as a key target.

While no formal bid has been made yet, Arsenal has reportedly expressed significant interest in the Serbian striker, conducting multiple inquiries in recent weeks. Vlahović, previously with Fiorentina, is estimated to command a transfer fee of approximately £58 million.

Vlahović’s playing style and statistical profile have drawn comparisons to Viktor Gyökeres, a connection supported by FBref’s analysis of players performing in similar positions in the Champions League.

Gyökeres is ranked as the ninth-most comparable striker to Vlahović, based on metrics like non-penalty expected goals, assists, shots on target, key passes, and goal-creating actions per 90 minutes.

The 24-year-old Vlahović has been described as a “goal machine,” a profile that Arsenal desperately needs to enhance their attacking capabilities.

Last season, he scored 18 goals and provided three assists in 38 matches. This season, he has already registered 12 goals and two assists in just 23 appearances, averaging a goal involvement every 1.64 games. These impressive figures underline his consistent ability to contribute in the final third.

Beyond his goal tally, Vlahović’s advanced metrics further establish his credentials. According to FBref, he ranks in the top 4% of strikers in Europe’s top five leagues for successful penalties, top 10% for expected goals, and top 11% for shots per 90 minutes. Journalist Siavoush Fallahi also praised him as a “world-class” talent.

Despite Arsenal’s current attacking options, the team still appears to lack the decisive edge needed to dominate offensively. Vlahović could provide the spark required to elevate their performance and sustain their title challenge.

As such, Mikel Arteta and his staff should prioritize securing the Serbian international’s transfer to the Emirates, as this acquisition could prove pivotal for the remainder of their season.
