Bacary Sagna has suggested that Paul Pogba would eagerly seize the opportunity to return to Manchester United for a third stint, especially under the guidance of the club’s current manager, Ruben Amorim.

The 31-year-old French World Cup winner is currently without a team following his departure from Juventus earlier this month. Pogba’s second tenure with the Italian giants was brief, featuring only 12 appearances before a doping scandal interrupted his career.

In September 2023, Pogba faced a four-year suspension after testing positive for a banned substance. However, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) reduced the ban to 18 months, recognizing that the substance was consumed unintentionally. This ruling makes Pogba eligible to resume training in January 2024, with a potential return to competitive matches in March.

Despite these challenges, Pogba’s undeniable talent has kept the door open for a potential return to Manchester United. Sagna, a former France teammate and ex-Arsenal defender, believes Pogba would flourish under Amorim’s management.

Discussing the possibility in an interview with Mega Dice, Sagna highlighted the positive changes at Old Trafford since Pogba’s last stint. He emphasized that Amorim, as a young and progressive manager, might welcome Pogba’s skill set and experience. Sagna also noted Pogba’s deep affection for the club, saying, “Paul truly loves United, and I think he’d thrive under Amorim’s leadership.”

Reflecting on Pogba’s earlier challenges at United, Sagna pointed out that the difficulties were partly due to the club’s struggles during that period. He added, “It wasn’t all on Paul. The club faced a tough phase, and many players found it hard to perform consistently at the time.”

Manchester United’s current midfield issues could also pave the way for Pogba’s return. With injuries sidelining key players like Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte, the squad has been stretched thin. The team’s recent 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town underscored these struggles, as both Casemiro and Christian Eriksen had to be substituted during the match.

If Pogba becomes available in March, his addition could provide a significant boost to United’s midfield. While it remains unclear if Amorim envisions Pogba in his long-term plans, Sagna’s comments suggest that the idea of Pogba returning to Old Trafford is far from improbable.
