Manchester United are on the brink of sealing another statement signing as talks to acquire Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo near conclusion, according to The Guardian. The club has been focused on solving their offensive deficiencies after last season’s struggle in front of goal. To execute manager Ruben Amorim’s preferred 3-4-2-1 system, United are even prepared to part ways with several high-profile wingers, including Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Alejandro Garnacho.
Having already brought in Matheus Cunha from Wolves, the club swiftly moved to pursue Mbeumo, who has been one of Brentford’s standout players. United agreed personal terms with the Cameroonian forward and submitted an opening offer of £55 million with bonuses included. However, Brentford turned it down, insisting they would only entertain a bid equal to or exceeding the £62.5 million that United paid for Cunha.
Persistent negotiations have yielded progress. As per the latest reports, Manchester United and Brentford have now agreed on a framework that will see the total deal value climb to £65 million through structured add-ons. While the base fee remains undisclosed, final touches are being added to the bonus components. This deal positions Mbeumo as the second major piece in Amorim’s offensive rebuild.
Mbeumo is expected to earn wages in the region of £150,000 per week, aligning him with the salary package already handed to Cunha. The Cameroonian brings versatility to the table—capable of playing as a right winger, second striker, or attacking midfielder. In Amorim’s blueprint, Mbeumo would likely slot into the right CAM role, flanking a central striker alongside a fellow creative force like Alejandro Garnacho.
Statistically, Mbeumo had a blockbuster campaign last season, notching 20 goals and providing seven assists across 38 matches in the Premier League. His dynamism, directness, and technical edge mark him as a significant upgrade. Compared to Antony and Sancho, whose productivity dipped last season, Mbeumo offers both end product and work ethic—two key ingredients missing in United’s recent wide options.
Following the Mbeumo signing, Amorim is pushing for further reinforcements before pre-season kicks off. A new centre-forward is the next priority, with Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku emerging as a strong target. Additionally, Amorim desires another central midfielder and a dependable second-choice goalkeeper to support André Onana.
As for departures, the overhaul continues. Rashford, Sancho, and Antony are all reportedly on the chopping block. Garnacho’s future is less certain but could hinge on incoming offers and squad reshuffling. Mason Greenwood’s situation also remains in flux, with both a loan and permanent exit still under discussion by the club hierarchy.
