Brighton’s left-back Pervis Estupiñán has reportedly set his sights on a summer move to Manchester United and has directed his agents to begin talks for an exit from the Seagulls, as revealed by journalist Sebastien Vidal. The 27-year-old Ecuadorian is said to be eyeing a fresh challenge, and Old Trafford is currently top of his wish list. Estupiñán’s interest comes at a time when Manchester United are trying to rebuild following a nightmarish 2024/25 season.
Last season was nothing short of a disaster for the Red Devils—they stumbled to a 15th-place Premier League finish and lost out in the Europa League final, which means no European football for them next season. In response to the collapse, manager Ruben Amorim is overhauling the squad, with early efforts mainly focused on reinforcing the attack. So far, United have brought in striker Matheus Cunha and are publicly chasing Bryan Mbeumo. But now the spotlight is swinging toward shoring up the wing-back slots.
Back in January, United signed young Patrick Dorgu from Lecce to address the wing-back issue, but Amorim reportedly wants more depth. Estupiñán, who’s drawn consistent praise for his energetic performances on the flank, is seen as a viable reinforcement. Though the club has been tracking him for some time, it’s only recently that Estupiñán made his intent clear, instructing his camp to secure a deal with United if a move can be negotiated.
Despite his enthusiasm, the reality might not be so straightforward. Reports indicate that while Estupiñán is appreciated internally at United, he is not among the club’s top-priority signings for this transfer window. That hesitation could delay or derail any serious negotiations, especially with other urgent positions—like midfield and goalkeeper—demanding more immediate attention.
Another wrinkle in the plan is that United have already locked in a deal for Diego León, a promising Paraguayan left wing-back. León is expected to start with the academy squad but could add to the growing traffic jam at left-back, which already includes Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot, Harry Amass, and of course, Dorgu. With this depth, some fans are openly questioning the need for another wing-back.
Still, Estupiñán’s qualities fit neatly into Amorim’s tactical approach. The Ecuadorian is renowned for his pace, relentless energy, precise crosses, and defensive awareness—traits that suit a wing-back-heavy system. But whether his style is enough to justify a big-money signing in an already-crowded position remains the key question.
Brighton are not expected to part ways with their player cheaply. His current valuation stands at around €40–45 million, and United would likely have to outbid other suitors like Chelsea, Tottenham, and AC Milan if they’re serious about sealing the deal. That kind of fee adds pressure to justify the investment, especially given United’s financial caution following their European exit.
So here’s where things stand: Estupiñán is all-in on the move, United like him but aren’t yet sold on spending big in a crowded role, and rival clubs are circling. Unless Amorim makes a decisive push or United offload one of their current wing-backs, this transfer remains more of a possibility than a probability.
