Barcelona is actively searching for reinforcements to bolster its attacking lineup for the upcoming season. While the club has already secured Robert Lewandowski’s contract until 2026, it aims to bring in a promising young striker.
The ideal candidate would train under the Polish forward for a year before eventually taking over as Barcelona’s main striker.
According to the Spanish newspaper El Nacional, RB Leipzig’s 21-year-old Slovenian striker, Benjamin Šeško, has emerged as a potential option. Reports indicate that Šeško himself has expressed interest in joining the Catalan club, positioning himself as a valuable asset for both the present and the future.
Šeško possesses the attributes that fit perfectly into coach Hansi Flick’s tactical setup. Standing at 1.95 meters, he is an imposing presence in attack. However, his skill set extends beyond his height—he is mobile, intelligent in his movements, and adept at playing with his back to goal. Additionally, he excels in aerial duels and is effective in exploiting spaces, making him a well-rounded striker.
Flick is already familiar with Šeško’s abilities, having monitored his progress closely during his time at Red Bull Salzburg. The young forward showcased impressive goal-scoring talent before making the switch to the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig. His development has only strengthened the belief that he could thrive at Barcelona.
Despite Šeško’s potential and interest in moving to Camp Nou, securing his transfer will be a challenge. He is under contract with RB Leipzig until 2028, and his release clause stands at approximately €60 million. Given Barcelona’s ongoing financial constraints, such a deal would require significant strategic planning. However, if the club manages to generate funds through player sales, acquiring Šeško would become more feasible.
Barcelona’s management is considering this investment seriously, viewing Šeško as a long-term solution in attack. His eagerness to join the club and willingness to compete with Lewandowski for a season add further credibility to the potential transfer.
Before making a concrete move, Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, and club president, Joan Laporta, must facilitate key player departures to create the necessary financial room. Names like Ferran Torres and Frenkie de Jong have been mentioned as possible departures if substantial offers arrive.
Although Šeško’s transfer remains uncertain, his admiration for Barcelona and Flick’s endorsement of his signing keep the possibility open. Ultimately, it will be up to the club’s leadership to determine whether they can make the financial commitment to secure the young striker as Lewandowski’s long-term successor.
