Matheus Cunha’s potential move to Arsenal has captured attention, especially as the player has reportedly agreed to personal terms with the Gunners while simultaneously negotiating a new contract with Wolves.
Despite progress on the Wolves deal, Cunha remains hesitant to finalize it due to Arsenal’s interest. The Brazilian forward is highly motivated to join Mikel Arteta’s squad and is working to facilitate the transfer.
Wolves’ head coach, Vitor Pereira, is preparing for a possible January departure of the 25-year-old, whose performances this season have showcased his talent. Cunha has scored 10 goals and provided four assists in 22 appearances, signaling his growth.
However, injuries, illness, and suspension have disrupted his form, limiting his contributions. His recent return to the starting lineup against Chelsea ended in a disappointing 3-1 defeat for Wolves, despite some positive moments from Cunha.
Pereira, however, expressed concerns about Cunha’s attitude during his post-match press conference. He criticized the forward’s body language, stating that as a captain, he should exhibit leadership by supporting and fighting for the team. Pereira also commented on Cunha’s failure to acknowledge traveling fans, emphasizing the importance of unity and focus.
While Pereira acknowledged the distractions caused by transfer speculation, he urged Cunha to realign his mindset and channel positive energy into the team. Wolves, struggling with inconsistency and off-field issues, need Cunha’s contributions to overcome their challenges.
The club’s current turmoil could present Arsenal with an opportunity. In addition to Cunha’s situation, Mario Lemina’s dissatisfaction has added to Wolves’ struggles. Lemina has not played since January 6, as he reportedly seeks a transfer. Pereira confirmed the midfielder’s absence stems from his desire to leave, stating he prefers players fully committed to the club.
With Wolves facing internal conflicts and declining results, Arsenal may see a chance to strengthen their attack by acquiring Cunha before the transfer window closes. As Arteta looks to bolster his squad, Cunha’s potential move to the Emirates remains a compelling storyline, with both parties exploring ways to finalize the deal amidst the ongoing challenges at Wolves.
