FC Barcelona have experienced a remarkable resurgence under the leadership of former Bayern Munich head coach Hansi Flick. Since his arrival in the summer, Flick has rejuvenated the team, introducing an attractive style of play that has brought success on the pitch.
His impact was evident in Barcelona’s commanding victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League group stage last month.
Flick, who enjoyed a trophy-filled tenure with Bayern Munich between 2019 and 2021, shares a strong bond with several of his former players. Reports suggest that he is eager to reunite with some of them at Barcelona.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Flick is particularly interested in bringing Bayern stars Joshua Kimmich and Alphonso Davies to Camp Nou. Both players are in the final year of their contracts, making them potential free transfer options.
However, their significant salary demands could pose challenges for Barcelona, who have been striving to reduce their wage bill in recent transfer windows to adhere to La Liga’s financial fair play regulations.
Bayern Munich, under the management of Vincent Kompany, have no intention of letting go of Kimmich and Davies, both of whom have been instrumental for the team this season. Securing their services would be a major coup for Barcelona, but the task is far from straightforward.
Among the two, Barcelona have a better chance of signing Alphonso Davies. Negotiations over a contract renewal between Davies and Bayern have stalled, and the Canadian defender is widely expected to leave Munich at the end of the season.
However, Barcelona will face stiff competition from Real Madrid and Manchester United for his signature.
While rumors of a pre-contract agreement with Real Madrid have been dismissed, Davies’ excellent rapport with Flick could influence his decision to consider Barcelona as a viable destination.
In contrast, Joshua Kimmich appears likely to stay at Bayern. The German midfielder has reportedly made progress in talks over a contract extension and has expressed satisfaction with his role in Kompany’s midfield setup. Unless unexpected complications arise, Kimmich is expected to commit his future to Bayern.
Additionally, Leroy Sané, another key Bayern player, is also in the final year of his contract. Until Bayern make definitive announcements about these players’ futures, speculation will persist regarding their potential moves away from the club.
