Arsenal has emerged as the frontrunner to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, surpassing interest from Manchester United and Bayern Munich, according to TEAMtalk. The 21-year-old Slovenian international, who has been impressive in his debut season at Leipzig, was previously on Arsenal’s radar last summer but chose to renew his contract with the Bundesliga club instead.
Despite this recent contract extension, speculation about Sesko’s future continues to grow. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is keen to bolster his attacking options as the Gunners seek to compete with Premier League giants Manchester City and Liverpool.
Reports suggest that Arsenal holds an edge in negotiations, thanks to productive discussions with Sesko’s representatives.
These talks have reportedly emphasized his potential importance in Arsenal’s long-term plans, alongside assurances of significant playing time.
Sesko’s market value has risen following a stellar start to the season, with 6 goals and 3 assists in just 9 appearances. While Bayern Munich has shown interest in the forward, Sesko is believed to be hesitant about joining a team where he might play a secondary role to Harry Kane.
Similarly, Manchester United, having recently added Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee to their attacking lineup, might struggle to guarantee Sesko consistent starts.
Arsenal, on the other hand, provides a more promising pathway to regular first-team action. With Kai Havertz excelling in a deeper midfield role this season, Arteta could create room for Sesko to lead the attack.
If Sesko does join Arsenal in the summer, it may raise questions about Gabriel Jesus’ future at the club, as increased competition could limit his role in the squad.
Although RB Leipzig removed a £55 million release clause from Sesko’s contract during the renewal, Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Marco Guidi estimates that the striker could command a fee of £66 million or more next summer, depending on his form for the remainder of the season.
This potential transfer could be a pivotal move for Arsenal as they aim to strengthen their squad and challenge for major trophies.
