Juventus has expressed a strong interest in signing Andreas Christensen, a Barcelona defender whose future at the Catalan club appears uncertain despite his contract running until 2026. Reports from the Spanish outlet El Nacional suggest that Christensen, once a pivotal figure in Xavi Hernandez’s team, may no longer hold the same importance under Hansi Flick’s management.
With increased competition for places in Barcelona’s defense and midfield, Christensen has struggled to secure a consistent role, exacerbated by his absence earlier in the season due to a serious pre-season injury.
Barcelona’s leadership, including Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco, has engaged in discussions with Christensen and his representatives to determine his future. However, no definitive resolution has been reached.
Given Christensen’s diminished role in the squad, Barcelona appears open to offers, aiming to avoid the risk of losing him for free when his contract eventually expires.
Juventus, seeking to bolster their defensive options, views Christensen as an ideal candidate to strengthen their squad. His experience at the highest level and versatility in playing multiple positions make him a valuable target.
This need has become even more urgent for Juventus following the season-ending injury to Gleison Bremer, their key defensive figure, who suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Head coach Thiago Motta sees Christensen as a perfect replacement to fill the defensive void left by Bremer’s absence.
The Italian club is preparing to make a formal bid in the January transfer window, reportedly offering €15 million in fixed fees and an additional €10 million in performance-based variables.
However, Deco, representing Barcelona’s interests, has set a firm valuation of €30 million for the Danish defender and is unwilling to sanction his departure for less.
As Juventus intensifies its efforts to secure Christensen’s services, the negotiation process is expected to be a significant focus in the upcoming transfer window. Both clubs remain at odds over the valuation, but with Christensen not a priority at Barcelona and Juventus eager to reinforce their squad, the potential for an agreement remains.
