Barcelona is set to maintain its well-established strategy of acquiring top-tier players on free transfers, a method that has brought stars such as Eric Garcia, Ilkay Gundogan, Inigo Martinez, Sergio Agüero, and Marcos Alonso to the club in recent years.
In a significant development, Hansi Flick has reportedly reached an agreement with Barcelona president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco on three potential free-agent signings aimed at bolstering the team’s squad.
According to the Spanish publication El Nacional, one of the prime targets is Bayer Leverkusen’s central defender Jonathan Tah, whose contract is set to expire in June. Despite interest from major clubs like Real Madrid—prompted by Éder Militão’s injury—Barcelona is keen to secure Tah’s services.
Flick sees him as an ideal candidate to reinforce the defense, especially if the club faces potential exits of key defenders Ronald Araujo or Andreas Christensen, both of whom are contracted until 2026. The fact that Tah would arrive on a free transfer makes the deal even more attractive for the Catalan side.
The second target on Barcelona’s radar is Joshua Kimmich, the Bayern Munich midfielder who has yet to renew his contract with the Bundesliga giants. Kimmich is reportedly exploring the possibility of a fresh challenge outside Germany.
While the emergence of Barcelona academy product Marc Casado has slightly lowered the urgency of this signing, Laporta and Deco remain highly interested in Kimmich due to his exceptional versatility. His ability to perform in multiple roles, including central midfield and defense, makes him an asset to any team.
Finally, Alphonso Davies, Bayern Munich’s dynamic left-back, is another top priority for Barcelona. As one of the best players in his position globally, Davies is expected to become a free agent at the end of the season.
Flick views him as a critical addition to strengthen the squad’s left flank. Bringing Davies to Camp Nou would significantly enhance Barcelona’s depth and quality.
If Laporta successfully secures these three signings, Barcelona could gain three world-class players without incurring transfer fees, a move that aligns perfectly with the club’s current financial constraints and long-term planning. These additions would not only improve Barcelona’s competitiveness but also reinforce key positions in the team.
