Barcelona is reportedly closing in on securing the signature of Canadian full-back Alphonso Davies, a player who has long been on Real Madrid’s radar.
Davies, currently with Bayern Munich, is among Europe’s most sought-after talents, and the Spanish club is making strides to bring him on board in the summer transfer window of 2025.
This move signals Barcelona’s determination to strengthen its squad with top-tier players and reestablish itself as a dominant force in European and world football.
For some time, Real Madrid has shown serious interest in Davies, with reports suggesting they intended to wait until his contract with Bayern expired next summer to sign him on a free transfer.
This plan, however, has left room for Barcelona to advance negotiations, with the Catalan club now positioned as the frontrunner to sign Davies when he becomes a free agent.
A key factor in Davies’ potential move to Barcelona is his relationship with the club’s current manager, Hans Flick. The two worked together during Flick’s tenure at Bayern, and Davies is reportedly enthusiastic about reuniting with his former coach in Spain. Flick has also urged Barcelona’s management to make an offer for the talented defender, a request that has further fueled the club’s efforts to secure Davies’ services.
Despite Barcelona’s strong position, the club faces competition from Manchester United and Real Madrid, both of whom are also keen on signing the Canadian full-back. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich remains interested in renewing Davies’ contract, though the parties have yet to reach an agreement.
Given the current circumstances, it appears increasingly likely that Davies’ time at Bayern Munich is nearing its end. Should Barcelona succeed in this transfer, it would not only strengthen their squad but also deliver a significant blow to their rivals, Real Madrid, who had been hopeful of adding Davies to their roster.
