According to reports from the Spanish press, Barcelona’s defender Eric Garcia will not be part of the squad for today’s derby against Espanyol in the 12th round of La Liga. Barcelona, who currently leads the La Liga standings with 30 points, sits six points clear of their nearest rivals, Real Madrid, in second place.
The Spanish newspaper “AS” revealed that Garcia’s absence from the team’s recent training sessions is the primary reason for his omission from the derby lineup.
“AS” further disclosed that Garcia was not present in Barcelona’s last training session, casting serious doubt over his potential participation in today’s match against Espanyol. The report highlighted Garcia’s importance in Barcelona’s lineup in recent games.
However, he suffered muscle discomfort in his right leg during the warm-up before the match against Sevilla on October 20, which has since impacted his availability.
Since the start of the current season, Eric Garcia has appeared in nine matches across various competitions, primarily playing in the defensive midfield role, although he is traditionally a central defender.
His role in Barcelona’s squad this season has been significant, often stabilizing the team’s defensive structure. Nevertheless, his recent injury concerns have limited his playing time, leading to his expected absence in today’s critical derby.
The Catalan derby between Barcelona and Espanyol is set to take place tonight, and fans were hoping to see Garcia in action as part of Barcelona’s defensive unit. However, with his fitness still a concern, his return to the field remains uncertain.
