Nonetheless, Arsenal journalist Charles Watts sees Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak as an ideal solution for Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Isak has been loosely linked with Arsenal before, although no formal approach was made. According to Watts, Isak possesses everything Arsenal should seek in a striker: a blend of agility, technical skill, and goal-scoring instinct that aligns well with Arteta’s tactical setup.

As a key player for Newcastle, the Swedish forward has demonstrated his ability to impact games through clinical finishing and flair, qualities that could enhance Arsenal’s forward line.

Arteta is well aware that Arsenal lacks a traditional number nine with a striker’s instinct and coolness in front of goal. Kai Havertz has done well in an advanced role, contributing with both goals and assists, yet his versatility is more aligned with playmaking than pure goal-scoring. Watts believes that, while players like Havertz add creativity, Isak could provide the finishing touch that Arsenal has been missing.

One of Arsenal’s primary targets had been Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP, who had an impressive season in Portugal with 43 goals in 50 appearances.

However, Arsenal decided not to pursue him, leaving the option open for a future striker acquisition. With Newcastle struggling to secure a long-term contract for Isak, Watts sees this as a potential opportunity for Arsenal to consider.

In a recent article, Watts expressed his admiration for Isak, calling him the “perfect” striker for Arsenal if they were to pursue a forward in the next transfer window. “Alexander Isak would be at the top of my list if he were available,” Watts remarked, noting that Isak’s abilities fit well with Arsenal’s ambitions and could address the need for a true striker.

Acquiring Isak, however, would be challenging. His current contract with Newcastle extends until 2028, giving Newcastle the leverage to demand a significant transfer fee or to retain him. Eddie Howe, Newcastle’s manager, highly values Isak and is unlikely to release him without considerable negotiation.

Still, if Arsenal were prepared to make a substantial investment, it could pave the way for Isak’s move to the Emirates in 2025, bringing the goal-scoring precision and adaptability that Arteta’s system requires.
