Mason Greenwood is reportedly keen to speak with new England manager Thomas Tuchel before making any final decisions about his international future. Despite the controversies that have surrounded his career, Greenwood still harbors hopes of representing the England national team again.

Thomas Tuchel was recently appointed as the new England manager following Gareth Southgate’s departure after England’s disappointing performance in Euro 2024. Tuchel’s contract will see him in charge for the next 18 months, officially starting his role in early 2025.

Greenwood, who has one senior cap for England, is eager to add more to his international career. His football journey nearly ended after he was charged with attempted rape, assault, and coercive behavior in early 2022.

However, he managed to revive his career by securing a loan move to Getafe and later joining Marseille. In his return to professional football, Greenwood has shown promising form, scoring five goals in seven Ligue 1 matches for Marseille this season.

According to a source quoted by The Sun, Greenwood is aware that his chances of playing for England again are slim but still wants to gauge the situation with the Football Association (FA) and Tuchel. His ultimate goal is to compete at the highest level, including the World Cup.

If England closes the door on him, he is reportedly considering switching allegiance to Jamaica in hopes of representing them in the 2026 World Cup.

Despite his ambitions, many believe Greenwood’s chances of returning to the England setup are virtually nonexistent. Both former manager Southgate and interim boss Lee Carsley showed no interest in reintegrating him into the squad.

It is likely that Tuchel and the FA will maintain this stance to avoid unnecessary controversy, especially at the start of Tuchel’s tenure as England manager.

Moreover, Greenwood faces stiff competition from the wealth of attacking talent available to England, including Bukayo Saka, Anthony Gordon, Cole Palmer, Phil Foden, and Jarrod Bowen, all of whom have excelled in his absence.

As a result, playing for Jamaica appears to be his most realistic option. Adding to the speculation surrounding his future, Greenwood has also been linked with a potential transfer to Liverpool, which would be a controversial move.
